Man United have handed Matej Kovar new terms, with the goalkeeper also heading to Burton Albion on loan.

Old Trafford has played host to some unreal goalkeepers of late. I’d go as far as saying that’s where the Reds are at their strongest right now.

From David de Gea to Dean Henderson, with a little Sergio Romero in between. Manchester United have been super-consistent in between the sticks.

With that comes issues for the next generation. One of whom is Matej Kovar.

The young man had recently earned his first Czech Republic international call-up, with his year getting even better. The club have confirmed that the 21-year-old United starlet has signed a new Reds contract.

He’s now left on loan for the remainder of the campaign, heading to League One outfit, Burton Albion.

This is Kovar’s second professional contract since 2019, which leads me to believe that Manchester United think there is a genuine chance this young man has what it takes to make it at the highest level.

At that age, it’s hard to tell how these goalkeepers are developing. Don’t forget that Dean Henderson had to go out on loan for three seasons in a row before people genuinely started to consider him as a future number one contender.

This loan move to Burton could be the start of that process for the talented Kovar, who certainly has it in his locker to become a high-level goalie despite the fact that nothing is guaranteed in football.

I guess part of the problem for Kovar and the other young shot-stoppers on the books is the fact that there’s still world-class players ahead of them in the pecking order.

All the best, Matej!
