Matej Kovar has signed a new contract at Man United, before heading back to his home country on loan.
Manchester United Football Club no longer play a game this weekend, with the football calendar wiped clean as a mark of respect for the late, HM Queen Elizabeth II.
The next time the Red Devils take to the field will be this Thursday in the Europa League, though before then, the hard work continues behind the scenes.
Although the transfer window is now shut, players can still leave on loan deals – which is exactly what’s happened to Matej Kovar.
Yesterday, the club confirmed that the 22-year-old star has signed a new Reds contract, before agreeing to head to Sparta Prague on loan, before the Czech transfer deadline slammed shut.
In terms of length, Kovar has been rewarded with a new three-year deal, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2025. This alone tells you everything you need to know about the Reds’ belief in the young Czech shot-stopper.
At this stage in his career, Kovar needs to be playing regular football. There’s no way past David de Gea or Martin Dubravka at the time being – so going somewhere to perform week-in-week-out is the logical option.
Kovar will feel more than comfortable back in his homeland, while also being ready to make a good impression, before coming back to Manchester as a much better player next summer.
No doubt this loan move will do him the world of good, before we hopefully see Kovar on pre-season with Erik ten Hag’s senior squad in about ten months’ time.
All the best, Matej! We’ll hopefully see you back here soon!
