Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels has often been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but the 25-year old would snub any deal offered to him by United if they fail to make it into the Champions League. David Moyes sees Hummels as a direct replacement for Nemanja Vidic, who is leaving on a free in the summer.
The Express claim that Champions League football is a must for Hummels, who would prefer a move to La Liga and Barcelona in particular. The ball-playing defender started his career at Bayern Munich, but after a successful loan spell at Dortmund, Hummels has been a mainstay in BvB’s line-up ever since.
Reports suggest that United would be willing to match any offers made for Hummels, and would also be able to offer high wages due to how much money they are saving by letting Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra go. However if the player does in fact see Champions League football as a key factor in any move, the chances are we won’t get him.
