Before the summer, Manchester United fans were expecting a mass clearout of players. Well, it took a little while but things are finally happening in that regard…
Romelu Lukaku is gone, Alexis Sanchez is looking likely to follow, as is Chris Smalling. Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, a fourth player could be out of the exit door.
That player is Matteo Darmian, with the MEN writing that the 29-year-old United defender is close to securing an Old Trafford exit before Monday’s European transfer deadline.
After making just seven appearances in all competitions last season, an exit always looked likely. To be honest, it has felt like the writing has been on the wall for Darmian for the last couple of seasons.
Now, the MEN write that the right-back is close to securing a move to an unnamed Italian club, but things will have to happen pretty quickly as we’re now only a few days away from the window slamming shut.
This transfer is more important for Darmian himself than anyone else. He isn’t playing regular football which is exactly what he needs at this stage in his career.
Hopefully, he heads to a club who can offer him regular minutes and Darmian can get back to his best because he’s actually an excellent player if utilised correctly.
