Matthijs de Ligt gives ‘green light’ to Man United transfer, personal terms no issue

Matthijs de Ligt has given the clearest indication yet that he’s ready to join Man United.

Manchester United Football Club may well be closing in on their first major signing of the summer, with the Red Devils looking to fill that gaping hole in their defence after Raphael Varane left on a free transfer.

Initially, Jarrad Branthwaite felt like the name the Old Trafford club were chasing, though recently, attention has switched focus, with Matthijs de Ligt now atop the wish list.

Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest information on that front. He has confirmed that the player has now given the ‘green light’ to signing for United, following direct talks between his agents and the club.

Personal terms will not be an issue, with his agent only negotiating with United as it’s a ‘priority’ for the player.

It’s now down to United and Bayern Munich to come to an agreement over the deal structure.

De Ligt, aged just 24, would be the perfect complement to Lisandro Martinez at the heart of defence. It’s also crazy to think that he’s still so young in footballing terms, despite the fact he has been around for ages.

If the price is right, this could be an unreal piece of business for the Old Trafford club, who have made it clear they’re no longer willing to overpay for players.

The only concern here is his injury history. De Ligt has struggled on that front, particularly with his knees. Let’s hope United conduct a thorough medical…
