Matthijs de Ligt has important offer from Man United who are ready to spend big: report

Manchester United will seemingly be linked with Matthijs de Ligt until the top-class 19-year-old eventually leaves AFC Ajax, it seems…

In what is starting to feel like a saga we need to call the ‘De Ligt daily’, Mundo Deportivo (translated Via Sport Witness), has the latest update on the future of the defender.

The Catalan media outlet are claiming that De Ligt has four ‘important offers’ from European giants on the table. With United, FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus all tabling bids.

What’s intriguing is that the story claims Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are ‘going strong’ in the running to sign the sought after centre-half, while United are determined to ‘spend big’ on De Ligt and other players.

De Ligt is currently with his country out in Portugal playing in the UEFA Nations League finals, although the Dutchman has stressed he will not make a decision until after the tournament has finished in just over a week’s time.

Although United continue to be named as being amongst the frontrunners by the papers, I still have major doubts about whether this move will actually happen.

The Red Devils don’t have Champions League football on offer. The best players tend to want to play in the best competitions. Whether De Ligt thinks he can single-handedly power United back into the top four next season is another matter entirely. He’s certainly young enough to take on that challege.

In terms of financial muscle, United can still mix it with the best of them so if De Ligt is solely focused on getting himself a huge wage packet, that could play into our hands.
