Mauricio Pochettino is still atop Man United’s priority list in terms of a new manager…
Ole Gunnar Solskajer is undoubtedly on his last legs. It does feel a matter of when rather than if the Baby Faced Assassin will lose his job. Sadly, the fact that he’ll always be a club legend cannot overcome the fact that sometimes, his tactical deficiencies come to the fore.
If we’re being real with ourselves, Solskjaer was always meant to be a stepping stone. In that sense, the Norwegian has done his job. The ship is now steady. The squad is brimming with talent. Perhaps what we need is him to step aside and let someone else take control.
Antonio Conte is being talked up as the heavy favourite right now. However, United’s gaze is firmly fixated on someone else. That’s if the Daily Star are to be believed.
That man? Mauricio Pochettino. Apparently, the 49-year-old remains United’s ‘first choice’ as manager. Furthermore, the club want time to plan any managerial appointment, meaning Solskjaer could be handed a lifeline until the next international break.
Honestly, that’s smart. United shouldn’t rush this appointment. It’s a hire that they have to get absolutely spot on. Get it wrong yet again and we’re basically hitting the reset button and going back to square one.
United will reportedly use that time to ‘gauge the availability’ of Pochettino, who is currently in charge of Paris Saint-Germain.
There’s no doubt Pochettino is a quality manager. However, he’s hardly set the world alight during his short time at Paris Saint-Germain and I’m honestly not convinced he’s that much better than Solskjaer.
Don’t get me wrong, it would be an upgrade. I just feel like we should look in a different direction. What that direction is, I’m not sure as I don’t fancy Antonio Conte either. Personally, I wouldn’t be against sticking with Solskjaer until the end of the season and hiring someone during next summer…
