Both Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay were included in the latest BBC TOTW following top individual displays against Leeds United.
Hitting anyone for six is always pleasing. It’s even better when it’s a fierce rival like Leeds United. Sixteen years they were made to wait to face Manchester United in a Premier League game. It literally couldn’t have started any worse for them.
From minute one, the Red Devils were right at the races. Slick passing, pristine ball control, silky movement. United could have hit double figures in this one if every chance were taken.
In the end, we’d settle for 6-2! I can’t put my finger on any bad performances from those in United colours on Sunday. However, there were a couple of standouts.
As per usual, Bruno Fernandes played like an absolute wizard, while Scott McTominay took the game by the scruff of the neck and had United 2-0 in front after just three minutes.
It’s no surprise then, that the United duo was named in the latest BBC Team of the Week for their excellent outings. I’d also make a strong case for Fred to be included in this, but I’ve got no complaints about the team picked.

We expect these sort of displays from Fernandes. After all, we’re talking about someone who has 40 goal contributions in 42 Manchester United games. That’s an outrageous record!
McTominay was undoubtedly the pleasant surprise. He absolutely bossed Leeds for 90 minutes, leading to their star man, Kalvin Phillips, being dragged off at half-time after getting the runaround for 45 minutes.
It’s these sort of performances, particularly in the big games, that make McTominay such an invaluable member of the squad. He’s maturing right before our eyes and turning into a genuinely brilliant footballer. What’s even better is that he’s one of our own!
Congratulations and well played lads!
Did both McTominay and Fernandes deserve to be in the BBC TOTW? Is there anyone else you’d include? Let us know!
