McTominay, Fred, emerge as doubts for Europa League final

Man United have been hit with a pair of injury concerns, just a week away from our Europa League final.

While it was great to see supporters back in Old Trafford after fourteen months, our overall performance left plenty to be desired. Edinson Cavani’s wonder-strike was the only highlight as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United limped to a draw.

I get it. United have bigger fish to fry in the form of the Europa League. Heading into that game in poor form definitely isn’t good for confidence, though.

It seems as though United’s situation may well have worsened on the injury front, too. The Red Devils have been hit with a double injury concern, with a key duo now doubtful to take part in that Europa League final, Samuel Luckhurst has confirmed

Apparently, both Scott McTominay and Fred picked up problems, which is why both were substituted midway through the second half. At the time, it sort of went under the radar but to hear they’re now nursing injuries could be problematic.

Now I know these two aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. However, Solskjaer always turns to this pair in the big games. They’re reliable, solid midfielders who always turn up when it matters most.

Heading into a game with a top Villareal side without them could pose some issues. In terms of potential replacements, it could be Donny van de Beek’s major opening, while Nemanja Matic will also be vying for a start in our most important game of the season.

I guess only time will tell if one or both of these guys are ready to play in the Gdansk showpiece next Wednesday. As for Harry Maguire, I’m getting more concerned about him by the day as he was still hobbling around Old Trafford on crutches last night.
