Scott McTominay named in WhoScored’s Carabao Cup Team of Round Four (20/21)

Scott McTominay did enough to earn his place in WhoScored’s Carabao Cup Team of the Round after a top display against Brighton on Wednesday.

The midfielder, who scored his first goal since *that* epic strike against Manchester City, put in a top-drawer performance, helping United to a 3-0 victory away at Brighton.

It was McTominay’s fantastic header that got the Red Devils on their way, following a lovely ball from Juan Mata.

In typical fashion, McTominay would bring the energy, physicality and defensive diligence to the table – helping his side win the all-important midfield battle.

Although we all like to beat up on the squad depth (or lack of), McTominay is one of the best rotational players in the business. This guy can come in and give you a solid 6/10 performance every single week. Having someone like him to call upon is priceless. It’s even sweeter that he’s one of our own.

Anyway, following his top display against Brighton, McTominay has been rewarded. The United star was named in WhoScored’s Carabao Cup Team of the Fourth Round. Rightly so, too. He was excellent.

Achieving an 8.06 rating on WhoScored’s metrics isn’t easy. McTominay richly deserved his spot in the team and long may it continue.

Don’t forget that we’re talking about someone who only recently committed his long-term future to United. Now, the task for him is to displace Nemanja Matic in the starting line-up. Sure, that’s easier said than done, but McTominay definitely has the talent to push his Serbian counterpart all the way.

Will McTominay start against Spurs this weekend? Probably not. Again, though, if United’s performance is lacking energy and guile. He can come off the bench and provide that bite in midfield.

Congratulations, Scott. Long may performance’s like the one on Wednesday night continue!
