Michael Carrick in ‘advanced talks’ for first permanent managerial role

Man United icon, Michael Carrick, is heading towards his first permanent manager role with Middlesbrough.

Manchester United underwent major change over the last year or so. Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was relieved of his duties, large parts of the coaching staff at the senior level has changed.

One man who I wanted to stick around was Michael Carrick. However, the former England international chose to leave, largely out of respect for his former boss.

Don’t forget that Carrick himself took charge of a couple of games in the aftermath of the Baby Faced Assassin leaving. Anyway, the United legend is now in ‘advanced talks’ to take his first permanent managerial role.

It’s Footy Insider with the claim. They state that the 41-year-old is in ‘pole position’ for the Middlesbrough job. Apparently, negotiations between Carrick and the club are progressing well, with an agreement thought to be ‘close’.

Boro are looking for a manager after letting Chris Wilder leave last week, with Carrick seemingly atop their wishlist at this moment in time.

OTF’s verdict

It goes without saying, Carrick was an unbelievable footballer. Management is a completely different ballgame so it’s hard to judge him in that regard based on his limited CV.

At this stage, it’s anyone’s guess in regard to how he’ll like to set his team up and what sort of system he’ll play. However, the Championship outfit need some instant impact from Carrick and whatever coaching staff he brings in, as they’re currently teetering just above the relegation zone.

I’d like to think that Carrick will follow in a similar path to Kieran McKenna, who also left the club not too long ago. He’s flying high at Ipswich Town in League One.
