Manchester United fans must be pinching themselves. To go from looking toothless, playing dull, boring football, to this swashbuckling attacking style.
For that, credit has to go to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has now beaten Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham all away from home in the space of a month. That’s the first time that has happened since the mid-80s!
Anyway, as you’d imagine, the fans were in wonderful voice last night. 6,000 Reds turned Stamford Bridge into their home, and they truly were the twelfth man that powered United through into the next round.
I’ve always said it, but we genuinely do have the best away fans in the country. It’s just a shame that Old Trafford cannot replicate that on a weekly basis.
Even the great Michael Carrick acknowledged how brilliant the travelling Reds were as he took to social media to praise the United fans:
This regime just seems far more appreciative of everything. The players, the fans, the coaching staff, the facilities, everything. United is just a happier club, but it’d be naive to say all that Solskjaer has done is to allow his players to be free.
The way he set up his team last night, with injuries decimating the squad, was a brilliant tactical switch and that should be noted. Next up, Liverpool at home. Come on you Reds!
