Manchester United and Liverpool games are always feisty affairs. Heck, we wouldn’t want it any other way.
Four substitutes were made in the first-half, all due to injury, although it didn’t seem like any were due to horrendous challenges being made – rather it was just an unfortunate 45 minutes of football.
Throughout the game, Marcus Rashford was getting kicked all over the show by Liverpool players. To his credit, the young man stayed on the field and never gave up.
As the second half was starting, however, it’s fair to say that Michael Owen didn’t cover himself in glory on commentary. He openly urged the Liverpool players to put in a tough challenge on Rashford’s injured ankle… As you can see (or hear) from the video below…
As the comment in the tweet puts it, Owen was a player who struggled with injury throughout his career. You’d think he’d have more class about the situation than this, particularly given the fact United stood by him when he was barely available for selection.
It’s just shocking, really. I can’t get my head around him saying that live on air with millions of people watching on. It’s certainly not a good lesson to teach and I’ll be surprised if he isn’t forced to come out and clarify his comments in the not too distant future…
