Mike Phelan sends defiant message to Man United fans after Barca loss

This morning, the Manchester United squad will be hurting. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were taught a harsh lesson by FC Barcelona with the Red Devils losing 4-0 on aggregate.

In both games United were outclassed. It was a real jolt back down to earth for a squad that had started well under the Baby Faced Assassin. Now comes the real test with backs firmly against the wall.

Qualifying for next season’s tournament isn’t going to be easy. Perhaps a key man within that dressing room is Mike Phelan, who took to Twitter this morning to send a defiant message to the fans. This club will bounce back…

You always learn more in defeat than you do in victory, that goes without saying. The main problem is that this squad just isn’t good enough. It would be unfair to say the board haven’t invested in the squad, they have, but a combination of acquiring the wrong players and giving big wages to bang-average footballers has been the problem.

This squad needs a huge overhaul and it’s too much to do in one window. Unfortunately, that makes me think that we’ll be way off the pace for a few more years yet…

Thankfully, Phelan is an excellent coach and hopefully, he and Ole get time to turn this around because they’re going to have to be in it for the long haul.
