Manchester United Football Club have already made three key signings this summer, with Ibrahimovic, Bailly and Mkhitaryan all coming in. However, Jose’s work isn’t done, and he has confirmed he wants to bring in one more player – a central midfielder.
There are no prizes for guessing who the top target is in that area of the field, and at this moment in time it certainly looks like all roads point to Paul Pogba. However, you’d imagine that Mourinho does have a back-up plan just in case this deal cannot be pushed through.
“I said at the first press conference at Old Trafford, our market has a fundamental part. And that fundamental part is four players: one central defender, one midfielder, one striker, and one creative player,” Mourinho said.
“And when we finish that fundamental market we are balanced. Maybe today you don’t feel it but no [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, no [Marouane] Fellaini, no [Anthony] Martial, no [Morga] Schneiderlin. So lots of them who are not here yet.”
If Mourinho can bring in Paul Pogba during this window, then it’d be a stunning piece of business – particularly when you factor in that United don’t have Champions League football on the table.
In terms of a transfer fee, there is talk of a huge £100million on offer for Juventus, and somewhere around the £20million mark. This is obviously an astronomical amount of money, but if anyone can afford it, Manchester United can.
Personally it’ll be great to see the Glazers finally dipping into their pockets rather than lining them.
