The Wayne Rooney saga is finally over! The striker has snubbed Jose Mourinho and Chelsea in favour of staying at Manchester United, giving new boss David Moyes a massive boost. Its always nice to get one over on your closest title challengers, and the 50-year old Scot will feel like he now has the upper hand on the self proclaimed ‘Special One’.
After a Man of the Match performance against Chelsea on Monday, it was looking more and more likely that Rooney was set to stay at United. But after the game, Mourinho encouraged the player to submit a formal transfer request – something which was not done.
As the week progressed, it emerged that Chelsea were interested in Samuel Eto’o which suggested that their pursuit of Wayne Rooney was finally over. The deal to bring the Cameroonian to Stamford Bridge was finalised late this week.
When asked about Rooney after yesterdays Super Cup final, Mourinho replied:
“For all parties, it’s finished. One thing is to tell you through other people that you want, you want, you want very much, but at the end of the day…
“I feel everyone has the right to show his life, his future and I respect that.”
Now its time for Rooney to get his head straight once and for all, and start banging in the goals for Manchester United. Some fans still aren’t happy that the club have chosen to keep hold of him, but its nothing a few important goals won’t sort out.
