Jose Mourinho is ready to give Luke Shaw an opportunity to become Manchester United’s first choice left-back next season, writes Jamie Jackson for The Guardian. That’s because the gaffer has been impressed by the attitude of the Englishman, who has been determined to take on board demands.
It wasn’t that long ago when Mourinho was aiming public swipes at the former Southampton player, but his talent has never diminished, and he’s still so young at 22.
He has gone on pre-season tour with the rest of the lads, although he’s still quite some time off returning to fitness. The Guardian adds that there is a slim chance of him being fit and ready to go for United’s Premier League opener against West Ham United on August 12th.
When he first came in, it looked like Shaw was going to become our first choice left-back for the next decade, but a series of injuries have definitely set him back quite significantly.
This next twelve months is absolutely massive for the young man, and it’s up to him to get himself out on the field on a regular basis, and begin to put in those commanding displays we know he is more than capable of.
