Manchester United Football Club are in a rich vein of form right now, with Jose Mourinho’s men recording a good string of wins together in the Premier League, whilst still progressing in Europe. However, the inevitable injury problems are now building up due to playing so many games.
This next problem couldn’t have come at a worse time, either. Paul Pogba hobbled off the park in the dying embers of the game against Burnley. At first glance, it looked like a hamstring problem, but it seems as though we won’t know his availability for the Manchester derby until a later date…
Mourinho has claimed that Pogba is ‘dead’ (on his feet), but he is still unsure as to whether he’s just tired or he has an actual muscular injury.
“I don’t know,” Mourinho said, as per the MEN. “Dead he is for sure, if he’s injured or if it’s just the super accumulation of fatigue in the muscles, I don’t know.”
“But as I was saying, if he cannot play Thursday he cannot play Thursday, we play another one and we don’t cry, like we didn’t today.”
At the end of the day, it’s inevitable that something like this was always going to happen. It’s physically impossible to play so much football in such a short space amount of time, and eventually, it’s bound to have some negative effect on the squad.
Just look at what happened to both Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. They both suffered ankle ligament damage in the same game, and they’ll now be sidelined for quite some time which is obviously a massive blow.
As for Pogba, his performances have been pretty good recently and it’d just sum things up if he was now ruled out for quite some time due to injury. Hopefully, he’s alright to play on Thursday night because we’ll really need him.
