Jose Mourinho has apparently told Anthony Martial that he’s free to leave Manchester United this summer, with FC Barcelona and Juventus interested in signing him.
That’s according to Italian media outlet Tuttosport, translated by The Sun. Furthermore, the report reckons that Martial himself is keen on a move to Turin.
Let’s be real here, it’d be absolutely criminal if United let Martial leave Old Trafford so easily. This is a player who has the potential to be up there amongst the best players on the planet. However, we’ve seen Mourinho do this before; just look at Mohamed Salah and Kevin de Bruyne right now.
The sheer fact that world-class clubs want to sign Martial tells us everything we need to know about his abilities as a footballer, and no doubt he’d come back to haunt us as an opposing player in the Champions League in future.
I guess the only positive from this would be the huge transfer fee that Martial would command. It’d give Mourinho more spending power that he’d be able to invest back into the playing squad. Don’t forget we have both Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford who can play on the left, whereas we’re looking pretty thin in midfield right now, and it’d be nice to solve that issue…
