David Moyes has been spotted today at the serie A clash between Juventus and Cagliari. Clearly a long way to go and catch a spot of Sunday football, so the question on everyone’s lips is……who was he watching?
Fresh from Saturdays win against Swansea, Moyes reportedly left for Italy this morning to catch the game. Obviously managers don’t usually go on routine scouting visits, so everything would point to concrete interest in at least one player on the pitch.
United have been linked with Claudio Marchisio in the past (a creative midfielder) who was on the bench today. United have been linked with Marchisio in the past on a number of occasions and is thought to be highly rated by Sir Alex among others. It is believed Juventus value this player at around £22 million.
Former united player Paul Pogba was also in action. Many (including Zidane among others) believe it was a huge mistake by United letting Pogba leave. He has since went on to flourish for both club and country and is surely worth a lot more than the 1.3 million Juventus paid for him. He would make a great addition to the United fold, but how realistic is a move for the Frenchman? The Express (among others) have reported united have tabled a £30 million pound bid. Is here anything behind this? I somewhat doubt it.
Another player United have recently been linked with a move for is Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal. A regular at Juventus, but he is reportedly looking for a move and possibly to the premier league champions. And a great signing he would be too if it were to be pulled off. The midfielder is highly rated in Italy, however could cost Moyes above and beyond £30 million. So no wonder the manager would want to get a first hand look.
Another possible target could be highly rated central defender Davide Astori of Cagliari who has also been linked with a move away from Serie A, and again with the premier league being a possible destination. Moyes could have been eyeing the defender up as a possible replacement for Vidic or Ferdinand.
Whoever Moyes was watching, only time will tell if they left a lasting impression on the United boss.
what a load of tosh, utd will end up with nobody in the winter window.
