Moyes watches Kroos and Draxler whilst on German scouting mission

David Moyes was in Germany over the weekend, as he continues to scout players ahead of bolstering his squad come the summer. On Friday night he watched Freiburg’s Matthias Ginter in action – A young central defender with bags of potential who is attracting interest from some of Europe’s elite clubs.

On Saturday night, the Manchester United gaffer watched Bayern demolish Schalke at the Allianz Arena, where Toni Kroos, Julian Draxler and Benedikt Howedes were all on show. All three have recently been linked with moves to United once this current season ends, so its hard to work out exactly which one Moyes was paying a particular interest in.

Both the British press and German media are confident that Manchester United’s interest in Kroos is genuine, and if you believe reports, that was the second time Moyes has personally watched the German central-midfielder play in the flesh.

Arsenal’s tried to sign Julian Draxler in the summer in a deal thought to cost the Gunners over £30m pounds, however that deal collapsed and it was expected they’ll revive interest in the summer. However Manchester United are now keeping tabs on the young playmaker, and this could throw Wenger’s bid into turmoil if the interest from Old Trafford is genuine.

Benedikt Howedes is another Schalke 04 player, and a centre-back who has been a mainstay in the German national squad since 2011. The 26-year old has plied his trade at Schalke since 2001, and is an extremely solid defender. With Rio and Vidic both likely leaving in the summer, we’ll definitely need some experience along our back line, and Howedes has played at the highest level.

The least known player out of the four who Moyes has reportedly watched is young Matthias Ginter. The 20-year old centre-half has impressed for Freiburg this year, so much so that German champions Bayern Munich are interested in his signature. Ginter has represented his country at every youth level up to the U21 stage.
