David de Gea – Looked a little shaky from time to time. Perhaps could have done better for the opener despite the deflection. 5/10

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Was poor on the ball today. He gave it away far too often and didn’t get forward enough. 4/10

Victor Lindelof – Sort of cruised through the game. There wasn’t enough urgency or intent. 5/10

Harry Maguire – Made a blunder late on which he was very fortunate to get away with. Average. 5/10

Luke Shaw – Tried to make things happen but there wasn’t much help down that left-hand side. 5/10

Nemanja Matic – Awful from the get-go. His passing radar was well off and got caught napping on more than one occasion. 3/10

Fred – Just as bad as his midfield partner. Gave it away time and time again and just wasn’t at the races. 3/10

Bruno Fernandes – Uncharacteristically quiet. Fouled in the build-up to Southampton’s goal. Not his day at all. 4/10

Paul Pogba – Looked sharp and always tried to make things happen. It’s a shame he had very little in the way of help. 7/10

Mason Greenwood – The only other positive from the game today. Scored a scruffy goal but the intent was there from minute one. 7/10

Anthony Martial – Didn’t look interested. There was no movement, no chasing down or no effort. 3/10

Jadon Sancho – Didn’t get into it.

Scott McTominay – Brought some energy to midfield.

Jesse Lingard – Not enough time to mark.
