MUFC Player Ratings during 1-0 loss vs Atletico Madrid (Champions League home, 2021/22)

First and foremost, we apologise for the delay in our player ratings. Simply put, we were feeling too disheartened to do these yesterday evening but here we are…

David de Gea – Wasn’t really tested all too often and couldn’t do anything about the Atleti goal. 5/10

Diogo Dalot – Worked tirelessly on both sides of the ball. Had a couple of long distance efforts blocked but on the whole, he was decent. Could be partly blamed for the Atleti goal. 5/10

Raphael Varane – Dealt with the threat well. Particularly dominant in the air. 6/10

Harry Maguire – Caught out of position for their goal. Was involved in a head butting incident with Cristiano Ronaldo. No, really… 3/10

Alex Telles – Linked up well with Sancho on a couple of occasions. His final delivery was average and I’d like to see him overlap more. 4/10

Scott McTominay – Threw his weight around and wasn’t afraid to get stuck in. Sometimes the quality was lacking. 4/10

Fred – Probably United’s best player on the day. He looked up for it from minute one and even brought out some tricks and flicks. Credit to him. 7/10

Bruno Fernandes – It was perhaps a gamble starting him given recent bout of Covid-19. Tried to make things happen but his final ball was inconsistent at best. 4/10

Anthony Elanga – Looked lively. Was involved in some good moves and almost scored in the first 45. Unfortunate to be subbed. 6/10

Jadon Sancho – Beat his man on more than one occasion. Looked like our best attacking threat. 6/10

Cristiano Ronaldo – Drifted out wide far too often for my liking. Wasn’t really given any guilt-edge chances to score. 5/10

Subs:

Marcus Rashford – Gave the ball away every single time he had it. Poor.

Paul Pogba – Didn’t really get into it.

Nemanja Matic – Steady enough.

Edinson Cavani – Hardly touched the ball.

Juan Mata – Not enough time to mark.
