MUFC Player Ratings during 1-1 draw vs Rayo Vallecano (pre-season 2022)

Tom Heaton – Had to be alert from minute one. Was more than willing to come off his line and mop up. Made a couple of smart saves but couldn’t do anything about their goal. 6/10

Ethan Laird – Caught napping for the Vallecano equaliser. It’s a shame because it was a largely encouraging performance putting that aside. Made two important blocks at 1-1. 6/10

Raphael Varane – Proudly wore the captain’s armband and set the tone for what was a decent defensive display minus one major lapse in concentration. 5/10

Lisandro Martinez – Super composed. Good with the ball at feet. Also turned a dangerous cross behind to prevent Vallecano from scoring. Made some big tackles. 7/10

Alex Telles – Solid enough. It was his parried shot that led to the Amad opener. 5/10

James Garner – Tracked back well and tried to get forward wherever possible. Solid. 5/10

Donny van de Beek – Saw more of the ball in this one, but still relatively quiet and ineffective. 5/10

Christian Eriksen – Exactly what you’d expect. Pretty cool and calm in every aspect of his game. Picks the right pass more often than not and unlucky not to open the scoring. 6/10

Tahith Chong – Looked a little off the pace throughout this one. That final pass or shot was often not of the required quality. 3/10

Alejandro Garnacho – The best player out there. He looked bang at the races from minute one, creating havoc with his skills and pace. It was nice to see him after his FA Youth Cup final success. 7/10

Cristiano Ronaldo – Nice to see him back out there in red. Missed a pretty big chance early on. Only had enough gas in the tank for 45 minutes. 5/10

Subs:

Amad – Made instant impact, showing quick reactions to fire home the ball after the goalie parried it. Looked lively.

Hannibal – Tried to make things happen when on the ball. Always looking forward.

Eric Bailly – The Ivorian was decent at the back. He played higher up the field than usual.

Shola Shoretire – Nice to see him given some pre-season minutes.

Zidane Iqbal – Looked slick with the ball at feet.

Isak Hansen – Not enough time to mark.
