MUFC Player Ratings during 2-1 victory vs Villareal (Champions League home, 2021/22)

David de Gea – Made some unreal saves to keep United in the game. Looks back to his best. 8/10

Diogo Dalot – Struggled mightily at times. Defensively, he was all over the show. 3/10

Victor Lindelof – Didn’t fare too badly as he returned to action. The gap between himself and Dalot was sometimes way too big, though. 5/10

Raphael Varane – Made a big mistake in the first 45 which he was fortunate to get away with. Cruised through the game aside from that. 5/10

Alex Telles – Excellent. Wasn’t troubled defensively and scored an insane volley to give United a way back into the match. 8/10

Scott McTominay – Played far deeper than we’ve seen recently and had a hit and miss evening. 5/10

Bruno Fernandes – United’s main outlet, which was worrying given the quality of footballers out there on the pitch alongside him. 6/10

Paul Pogba – Pretty quiet from midfield. I still think he’s more effective out wide when he isn’t asked to defend. 4/10

Jadon Sancho – Looked lively. Showed some glimpses of his capabilities. 5/10

Mason Greenwood – Drifted in and out of this one. 5/10

Cristiano Ronaldo – Quiet, in truth. But popped up when we needed him the most! 6/10

Subs:

Nemanja Matic – Didn’t really get into it.

Edinson Cavani – Tried to make things happen.

Fred – Not enough time to mark.

Jesse Lingard – Had a half-chance late on.
