David de Gea – Made a few smart saves but in truth, had a pretty quiet afternoon. 6/10
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Defended well, including a couple of top sliding tackles. Tried to get forward. 6/10
Raphael Varane – Cruised through the game. His positional awareness is out of this world. Made some key tackles and headers. 8/10
Harry Maguire – Dived into a challenge he didn’t need to for the Newcastle equaliser. Steady aside from that. 5/10
Luke Shaw – Linked up with Ronaldo wonderfully for the second. Bombed forward at every opportunity. 6/10
Nemanja Matic – His best game in a while. Although he got bypassed on a few occasions, he was far more solid than his last time out vs Southampton. 6/10
Paul Pogba – Moved back into midfield and did okay. 5/10
Bruno Fernandes – Wasn’t to be outdone by his new Portuguese teammate, he’d score an absolute worldie to secure the result. 7/10
Mason Greenwood – Worked his socks off on both sides of the ball, but things didn’t come off for him in the final third today. Was vital for the opening goal, mind. 6/10
Jadon Sancho – Just didn’t look at the races. His passing was sloppy and couldn’t penetrate. 4/10
Cristiano Ronaldo – It just had to be, didn’t it? Our new signing would score a tap-in, before adding another rounding off a wonderful team move. He really is home. 8/10
Subs:
Jesse Lingard – Helped change the game due to his passing and movement. Scored to seal the victory and I must say I’m delighted for him.
Donny van de Beek – Nice to see him out there.
Anthony Martial – Not enough time to mark.
