Victor Osimhen remains high atop the list of priorities for Man United.
Manchester United Football Club allowed Cristiano Ronaldo to leave last December, while his minutes have been replaced, albeit temporarily, by Wout Weghorst.
The Dutch striker has many admirable qualities, though the fact remains, he probably won’t be here next season. Erik ten Hag will be searching far and wide for a more permanent fixture to fill that void, with several names already linked.
Amongst them, Victor Osimhen. The man from Nigeria is absolutely killing it over in Serie A right now, with his Napoli side leading the way.
All had gone somewhat quiet on the Osimhen to United front – until a little snippet of information in Jason Burt’s latest Telegraph column.
Apparently, the 24-year-old striker is ‘being tracked’ by United, as the Red Devils look to fill the striker void within their squad.
In terms of overall fit, I genuinely don’t believe there’s anyone out there more tailor-made to the role than Osimhen. The man from Nigeria is perfect for this system.
However, Osimhen will not come cheaply. Napoli are a notoriously difficult club to buy from, with their asking prices typically firm and unmovable. The 24-year-old is likely to cost in excess of £100m, while it’s not completely clear whether United have that sort of budget available – particularly while club ownership remains up the air.
At this stage, there’s nothing concrete to suggest that United will go all out for Osimhen, though it is good to learn that the club are at least considering him as a serious possibility.
I’d suspect we’ll hear several other names linked with a United switch before the summer, but I’d also expect these Osimhen stories to ramp up.
