Nathan Ake speaks out on rumours linking him with Man United switch

Manchester United’s poor summer transfer window was well documented. Jose Mourinho didn’t acquire the signings he wanted, largely due to Edward Woodward’s inability to make the moves.

It seems as though the Red Devils are doing their utmost to try and rectify those errors, with reports linking United with several different players already. One name that cropped up was Nathan Ake of AFC Bournemouth.

While on international duty, it seems as though Ake was questioned about those rumours. In typical manner, he tried to remain as professional as possible, by stating that he’s solely focused on playing his football for The Cherries.

“I’ve seen it pass by but of course it’s rumours. At the moment I play at Bournemouth and that is going well, so I focus on that.” Ake is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

“This does not say much about my status yet. They are rumours on the internet and as long as I do not hear anything myself, I will not go into that.”

I’ve said it before, but I’ve been mightily impressed by Ake this season. His quickness, physicality, positioning and aerial ability are all great. He’s also good for a goal or two every now and then as well…

My main concern is his age. Adding yet another young player (23) to the equation just doesn’t seem like the move. Right now, we’re after experience, someone who can become a leader of that back four. The name that I always come back to is Toby Alderweireld. He’d be the perfect candidate if only for a few years…
