Over the summer, Manchester United made an astute move by bringing Chelsea star Nemanja Matic to Old Trafford. The Serbian warrior has been there and done it in the Premier League, and the move made perfect sense given the fact he has worked with Jose Mourinho previously.
From day one, the 29-year-old has made nothing but a good impression at the Theatre of Dreams, putting in some top drawer performances against some quality opposition so far.
Of course, this is only the start but things certainly bode well going forward as he gets more and more used to playing with his new teammates.
Now, Matic has been speaking to the media ahead of the Red Devils’ opening Champions League fixture. He has said that he is most excited about playing at Old Trafford in front of 70,000+ people – and you can hardly blame him.
“The Champions League is such an important competition, it allows you to play against some of the best teams in Europe, so it’s going to be great for us. We have to recover well from Stoke and try to win on Tuesday.” Matic is quoted as saying by ManUtd.com.
“Of course, I’m very, very excited for the atmosphere inside Old Trafford. It’s always nice to play in front of over 70,000 people and I expect it will be a great night and a great game for us.”
Whether our opposing fans like it or not, Manchester United are by far and away the biggest club in this country, and although he enjoyed a lot of success at Chelsea, it’s a definite step up for him.
Champions League nights under the floodlights on Salford Quays have always been very special, and that’ll be no different when United play Basel tomorrow; particularly when you consider we’ve had to wait over a year to hear that music play before the game kicks off.
