Nemanja Matic explains why he left the champions to join Manchester United

Manchester United’s third major signing of the summer has been confirmed. The Red Devils have sealed a move to bring in Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic, and the Serbian beast will wear the #31 jersey, previously owned by Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The physicality and defensive awareness of the 29-year-old will immediately offer more balance to the midfield, and I for one am thrilled at the acquisition. Jose Mourinho has played an absolute blinder here, and the pair will know each other well from their time at Stamford Bridge.

In his first official interview, Matic was asked exactly why he left the champions in order to make the move to Manchester United, and his response certainly makes for pleasant reading.

“As we know, as I said, Manchester is one of the biggest clubs in the world. Also, my wish was to train with Jose [Mourinho] and, of course, when you have a coach like him and a club like Manchester is, you don’t need to think a lot so my decision was very easy.” Matic told ManUtd.com.

Although we’re without a Premier League title over the last few years, it is definitely clear to see that Manchester United are still the biggest club in the country.

On top of that, he’ll be working for the best, most successful modern-day manager in the English game. What’s not to like?

I may be biased, but we’re definitely a side on the up, and Mourinho is slowly but surely ironing out the problems within our squad. If we can get one more player in during this window, then I wouldn’t bet against us making a title charge in 2017/18.
