Manchester United Football Club deserve all the plaudits coming their way at the moment, with Jose Mourinho masterminding an absolutely out of this world display. Getting one over on his former club must have tasted particularly sweet due to the manner in which we played them off the park.
One of the decisions that I personally questioned when the team news was announced was the fact that Marcus Rashford started ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
It shows what us fans know, because Mourinho got it absolutely spot on and huge credit to Rashford who played wonderfully. The man from Wythenshawe led the line outstandingly well, and he really has thrown a marker down to the manager.
Gary Neville clearly thinks the same way and in the dying embers of the match, he made a bold statement about Manchester United’s supremely talented striker.
“He has truly taken his chance,” said Gary Neville in the Sky Sports commentary booth. “He has been outstanding. The Chelsea back three, who have been fantastic all season, have been torn apart all day.”
You just have to agree with him. From minute one, Rashford gave David Luiz and Gary Cahill absolute nightmares with his pace. He left them for dead more often than not and some of the runs he was making were brilliant.
He took his goal nicely after an excellent pass from Ander Herrera, and that really allowed him to settle into the game relatively easily. His manager must have really been pleased with such a mature display as it gives him another option as we approach the business end of the season.
