Eric Bailly’s new contract means Man Utd are turning their attentions to making a marquee signing up top. Enter, Erling Haaland.
I’ll be honest, news of an Eric Bailly new contract at Manchester United surprised me. Sure, I know how talented the Ivorian is. His problem has been getting out on the field with regularity.
Well today, I have a somewhat different outlook on the news. According to the Daily Telegraph, the Red Devils’ focus is now concentrated on signing a forward.
Erling Haaland is thought to be that man, with United now having a ‘clear run’ at ‘competing’ to sign the prolific striker this summer. Obviously, attentions are now on adding that world-class number nine as opposed to finding a partner for Harry Maguire.
Haaland has 37 goals in 38 games across all competitions, which is nothing short of ridiculous. I know he has a release clause that activates next summer, at which point, every man and their dog will be in the market for the Norwegian.
This summer, United could look to jump the gun and move ahead of their rivals. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will now have Champions League football on the table which is another big plus, while money being tight for La Liga’s big-boys also helps our case.
You’d imagine the big competition will come from Manchester City, who themselves have a striker hole to fill with Sergio Aguero departing. If I’m Ed Woodward, I’m going out there now, making my intentions clear early and doing all I can to get this move wrapped up as soon as possible – whatever the cost.
Players like Haaland don’t come around every single day. He truly is a once in a generation talent. Pair him with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba. Wow…
Would an Erling Haaland move make Man Utd instant title challengers? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
