Fellow Premier League side, Newcastle United, have shown an interest in signing Scott McTominay.

Manchester United’s midfield has quickly gone from their weakness to a genuine strength. The Old Trafford side signed Casemiro over the summer, while Christian Eriksen was another nice pickup.

Suddenly, the ‘McFred’ partnership is no longer a regular thing. Those guys often blew hot and cold when they were starting together with regularity.

Anyway, one half of that combination is now being linked with a move away. It comes from The Telegraph (h/t Stretty News). It’s being claimed that Newcastle United have expressed an interest in signing McTominay.

On top of that, the 26-year-old United star has raised concerns about his lack of playing time at the moment.

It’s stated that if Newcastle feel as though United could be tempted to part ways with McTominay, they may well table a bid for the Scotland international.

When you’re talking about an academy product, the conversation suddenly becomes much more difficult.

McTominay may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but he’s done a great job for this club on multiple occasions. At this point in time, he’s just not going to get the minutes he desires.

Aged 26, this is probably the best time to sell from a value standpoint. United could get a decent fee for McTominay, which they could then funnel back into the squad either during this window or next summer.

It makes me sad to say it, but it probably is best to let McTominay go. He deserves to be playing week-in-week-out, while Newcastle are certainly a side on the up.

If United can get £20m+ for his signature, then it seems like a no-brainer.
