Newcastle ‘intensify interest’ in Dean Henderson

Man United goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, continues to attract interest.

Manchester United had a goalkeeper battle on their hands twelve months ago, with Dean Henderson really starting to push David de Gea for that number one jersey.

The Spaniard has reasserted his dominance during the 2021/22 term, leaving Hendo rooted to the bench for pretty much the whole campaign.

As is expected, the Englishman’s frustrations are growing as he simply just wants to play football – be it for Manchester United or elsewhere.

Interest was always going to be expected in Henderson. He’s a brilliant keeper in his own right and he just wants that regular football. This summer, a move away in some capacity feels incredibly likely.

The latest from The Mirror claim that Newcastle United have intensified their interest in signing the 25-year-old United star this summer.

Apparently, Magpies manager Eddie Howe tried to sign Henderson on loan in January and viewed him as the ideal successor to replace martin Dubravka.

Henderson is ready to ‘seek a move’ away from United, unless Erik ten Hag guarantees he’ll be the number one. Sadly, I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

There’s no doubt this last term has been a tricky one for Henderson, particularly after some really impressive loan spells with Sheffield United. He has been ready to play at a high level, week-in-week-out, for at least a couple of years and he absolutely needs that chance.

Personally, I’d love to see Henderson given the opportunity here. I believe he’d fit nicely into Ten Hag’s system and the risk of losing him this summer is real. Why not see what he’s got? As it could potentially save United loads of money in the long run when it comes to replacing De Gea.
