Manchester United’s need to sign a new centre-back is massive. With just one week left until deadline day, the Red Devils better act quickly.
Well, last night, the Daily Mail actually had some outgoing transfer news in regards to United defenders…
Apparently, Newcastle United ‘have an interest’ in signing the 21-year-old centre-half Axel Tuanzebe; but a deal hinges on Harry Maguire heading to Old Trafford first.
New Magpies boss Steve Bruce wants defensive reinforcements before the deadline, with Tuanzebe on his watchlist. The pair actually worked together at Villa Park before the manager lost his job with the Midlands club.
What I find intriguing is that the Daily Mail claim that United won’t let Tuanzebe leave until they sign another central defender – particularly as Eric Bailly is now out for the next four to five months.
Although the story doesn’t state whether the move would be a loan or permanent, I’d be shocked and disappointed if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cashed in on Tuanzebe during this window.
The young man is mega-talented and I’d argue that he already deserves minutes ahead of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo. Right now I’d have him third in the pecking order behind Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling so I just don’t see him leaving anytime soon – particularly after signing a new deal just this summer.
