Brandon Williams is being monitored by Newcastle United for a potential January loan move.
The young full-back became an integral part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad last term, playing a huge role for the Red Devils in that left-back slot.
Brandon Williams would outperform Luke Shaw on numerous occasions, racking up an impressive 36 appearances in all competitions.
However, this season it has been different. Shaw started the campaign in brilliant fashion while the addition of Alex Telles has meant the fight for minutes has proved far tougher.
Williams has only featured on four occasions, having yet to start a Premier League game for United this season. Now, the out-of-favour 20-year-old is being targeted for a January loan move by Newcastle United.
The story comes from Chronicle Live, who state that Newcastle are ‘monitoring the progress’ of Williams. Who ‘could be available’ in January.
The Magpies are said to be ‘considering’ a move for the ‘versatile’ defender, who can play in either full-back slot.
But should United sanction a Brandon Williams loan?
In a word, no. Williams’ versatility should be utilised by Manchester United, not Newcastle United.
Sure, he’s struggling for minutes right now but the Englishman’s chance will certainly come. Shaw’s injury problems are there for all to see, while don’t forget Williams is now the first-choice back-up to Aaron Wan-Bissaka in that right-back slot.
This is someone who will make an impact at Old Trafford before this season is out, make no mistake about that. For Williams, it’s about continuing to develop and grow. It’s easy to forget he’s still so young in footballing terms, despite being thrust into the limelight last season.
The fact that Williams is a Red through and through certainly helps United’s chance at keeping him in January, though. I guess it comes down to what the player wants as that’s the single-most important thing.
