Man United seemingly have eyes on Bayern Munich centre-back, Niklas Sule.
It’s pretty clear that Manchester United have numerous issues going into what is a huge summer for the club. Perhaps a new central midfielder is the biggest need. However, a partner for Raphael Varane wouldn’t go amiss.
The likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones all have inconsistencies within their game. That isn’t changing anytime soon.
Now, according to a report from Sky Germany, with the translation coming via Sport Witness, Niklas Sule is now being linked with a potential Old Trafford switch.
It’s journalist Florian Plettenberg with the scoop. He says that the Bayern Munich centre-back is running down his contract, and he’ll sign on as a free agent elsewhere this summer. Both United and Chelsea are apparently keen.
As things stand, Plettenberg states that the Reds are best-placed to sign the 26-year-old defender on a free transfer this summer.
Although the article revealed Chelsea were ‘particularly interested’, the journalist said: “I can’t imagine that, I would say it’s more towards Manchester United.”
This is the first time United have been linked with Sule – and somehow I doubt it’ll be the last. There’s only a handful of clubs that would be able to tempt the German to leave Bavaria for pastures new.
With the Red Devils having conceded so many goals this term, it makes plenty of sense to at least throw their name into the ring. Sule has been part of a side that have won trophies galore over the last few years. At the very least, having that winning mentality within the squad will be a huge lift.
In terms of his style of play, Sule isn’t the quickest, but he is extremely tough and physical. On paper, it feels like he’d be the perfect partner for Raphael Varane. I’m not sure where that would leave club captain Harry Maguire, mind.
A lot can change very quickly in football, so I expect there to be plenty more twists and turns in this transfer saga over the next few months.
