Not Rooney: Louis van Gaal defends misfiring striker

Manchester United made a huge £38million move for Anthony Martial on transfer deadline day, and the young man has been an revelation at Old Trafford. However over the last few weeks he hasn’t found the back of the net, and Louis van Gaal has leapt to the defence of the young man.

“Anthony Martial is very talented but only 20 years old. We must give him time – I’m convinced he’ll score at the right moments.” Louis van Gaal said. “You cannot expect a player of 20 years old to score in the Premier League every week.”

Its a bit of an odd one. Martial burst onto the scene with a fantastic goal against Liverpool when expectations were low, and since that moment more has been expected of him.

We tend to forget that he is just twenty, but its frightening to think how good he is going to be for this club in the long-term.
