Odion Ighalo makes personal plea to Shanghai Shenhua to extend Man United loan: report

Back in January, it’s fair to say eyebrows were raised when Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sanctioned a loan move for Odion Ighalo.

The Red Devils fans’ opinion quickly changed, as the Nigerian made an immediate impact at Old Trafford. Scorching goals, brilliant hold-up play and a desire to perform for the shirt he proudly wore on his chest; Ighalo showed it all.

However, with play in England halted, there were doubts about whether Ighalo would pull on the red shirt again. With a loan deal that expires in just three days, it definitely looks unlikely…

Well, it seems as though the player himself hasn’t completely given up hope. The story comes from the Manchester Evening News, who writes that Ighalo has made a ‘personal plea’ to Shanghai, as he understandably wants to finish the season with United.

Talks between the Reds and the CSL outfit have so far ‘failed’, though with Ighalo being ‘desperate’ to finish the season at United, confidence is growing that an extension could be agreed during ‘much more positive’ talks.

The impasse has occurred as Shanghai want to sell Ighalo on a permanent deal while United, understandably, just want an extension to the loan agreement before a long-term decision is made.

I just hope that some sort of compromise can be reached. At the end of the day, it’d be cruel if Ighalo doesn’t get to have a proper send-off from United and their fans. He deserves that at the very least, though I still don’t think he’s the long-term solution for Solskjaer.
