Manchester United Football Club made a short-term deal for Odion Ighalo on transfer deadline day, as the Red Devils look to add more firepower up top.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to let Romelu Lukaku leave Old Trafford in the summer, without replacement, was a poor one. In 2020’s transfer window, that issue has to be fixed permanently.
Several strikers have been linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams, including Moussa Dembele. Well, according to pundit and former Celtic man Charlie Nicholas, prolific Bhoys 22-year-old, Odsonne Edouard, is ready for his big-money move…
Nicholas believes Edouard, who has scored 20 league goals in 22 SPL games, is good enough to play at either Chelsea or United – which is high praise indeed.
“Odsonne Edouard is good enough to go and play at a Chelsea or a Manchester United.” Nicholas is quoted as saying by the Daily Express.
“I say that with some confidence. I think he could go into both their squads and make a real impact.
“That is how much ability he has. It is up to him how far he wants to go in his career. The sky’s the limit.
“Why have I picked these clubs? Because they have both been linked with his former Celtic striker partner Moussa Dembele in recent months.”
“For me, Edouard is a better footballer than the Lyon striker and his fellow Frenchman.
“He is absolutely nailed on to win the player of the year award in my opinion.”
Aged 22, Edouard is young enough to adjust and adapt to Premier League football, while in regards to the price tag, it’d likely be much smaller than that of his former teammate Dembele.
Having spent five years at Paris Saint-Germain’s youth academy, there’s an obvious talent and ability there. Standing at 6’2, again, he’d bring a different dimension to United, while fitting the player profile that Solskjaer tends to go for – young, with British football experience.
Honestly, there are worse options out there. At first, Edouard would have to settle for irregular minutes but in time, there’s no reason why he can’t nail down a first-team place down. It definitely could be an astute signing, despite the fact that fans will be clamouring for that marquee name…
