Ole Solskjaer explains why Anthony Martial missed Club Brugge game

Manchester United Football Club comfortably progressed into the last sixteen of the Europa League this evening, blitzing Club Brugge by five goals to nil.

On the night, Odion Ighalo would make his first Reds start. He’d score a goal to set United on their way, too. However, the chance only came about due to Anthony Martial being missing from the squad.

Many, like myself, thought he was merely being rested for the Everton game this weekend. However, that’s not the case as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms that the key 24-year-old picked up an injury in United training. We’re now sweating on his fitness ahead of our trip to Goodison Park…

“He didn’t feel right after training yesterday, or he walked off during training. He’s injured.” Solskjaer told United’s in-house channel MUTV, transcribed by Sky Sports News.

“So hopefully it won’t be too bad but I don’t really know yet how long he’ll be [out for].”

Sky say it’s a muscle injury for Martial, which often just need rest and there’s not much else you can do. However, at this stage, the worst thing United can do is risk the Frenchman and leave the Reds yet another man down up top.

Obviously, there’s a need for Martial within this squad due to Marcus Rashford’s injury. Everton away is never easy and having those different options are vital. Let’s hope it was a precautionary measure more than anything because he’s a key player for us during this run-in as we look to secure Champions League football.

Get well soon, Toto!
