Man United have one player included in the BBC Team of the Week, following a top outing from the individual.
It certainly feels a lot better waking up the weekend after a Manchester United win. Erik ten Hag’s side certainly put in their best performance of the young season away at Southampton on Saturday, winning 3-0.
The game itself changed when Andre Onana saved a penalty. From that point forward, the Red Devils were in complete control and at times, they played some lovely football.
After detailing the WhoScored Team of the Week earlier, which featured two Reds, we’re now back with BBC Sport‘s version, including one player; Matthijs de Ligt.
It’s no surprise seeing the Dutchman involved. After all, he set United on their way with a lovely headed goal, before putting on a defensive masterclass, resulting in a clean sheet.

This was exactly what United were hoping for when they signed De Ligt from Bayern Munich. He’s a classy footballer who was always going to improve not only the squad, but the first-choice starting line-up.
The Dutchman knows Ten Hag well from their time together at Ajax and it really felt like the defender himself really wanted this move to happen. He’s playing with a smile on his face and it’s brilliant to see.
I guess the issue for De Ligt now is to stay fit. He came off with cramp on Saturday, but I’d be surprised if he’s unavailable for our next league game away at Crystal Palace on Saturday. Things may also get interesting when Leny Yoro returns to fitness. It’ll be super interesting to see who Ten Hag prefers as as his first choice back two…
Congratulations, Matthijs!
