The paperwork has been signed, with Axel Tuanzebe now heading to Napoli on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
Manchester United’s defence remains a major concern. Sure, there’s no doubt Raphael Varane has improved the overall outlook of the squad – though the rest of the defenders around him continue to struggle.
Eric Bailly remains out of favour, Victor Lindelof as inconsistent as ever, while Harry Maguire’s form is sadly trending downwards.
It wasn’t too long ago when Axel Tuanzebe was being talked up as a future regular starter for the Old Trafford club. After all, we’re talking about the youngest ever reserve captain in United history.
However, Tuanzebe has remained out in the cold. So-much-so that he’d head back to Aston Villa on loan for the first half of the campaign. That’d only fetch in eleven appearances across all competitions.
Well, that deal has since ended early due to a lack of performances. Though United have already fixed another move for Tuanzebe – and playing at an even higher level…
The story comes from Fabrizio Romano, who claims that a deal has been signed, with Tuanzebe set to head to Napoli on loan until June. He’ll undergo his medical on Friday, with the United starlet set to leave the club in a deal worth £500k (€600k).
In theory, this is an excellent move for Tuanzebe. However, these sort of loan moves always are measured by playing time. It’s all well and good if our 24-year-old starlet heads to a top Serie A side – but he simply has to be starting week-in-week-out.
My worry is that if Tuanzebe can’t break into the Aston Villa team, how is he going to cope over in Naples where the competition is only going to be fiercer?
The good news is that Tuanzebe is a big believer in his own ability and he’ll always back himself. If given that opportunity to prove his worth by the Napoli boss, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tuanzebe takes that chance with both hands and forces himself into the starting line-up on a regular basis.
