I absolutely love this game. I absolutely love Patrice Evra. What a gem of a human being he is.
Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has been quick to poke fun at Manchester United this season. Sure, some of it’s warranted.
However, don’t chirp up and not expect others to clap back when the footballing results don’t go the way of your team… Patrice Evra was quick to fire shots at the singer/songwriter following Manchester City’s loss to Chelsea in the Champions League final (hahaha!).
In typical Evra fashion, the Frenchman would post another outstanding video, complete with dodgy wig and those awful glasses the Gallagher brothers would wear in the Wonderwall video. You love to see it.
‘I said maybe, you’re gonna win it when I’m 90’ was the personal favourite line, although the ‘noisy neighbours’ dig was also rather lovely.
Honestly, this is what the sport is all about. If you can’t poke fun with your rivals, then what’s the point in even playing or watching?
The heated debates with your mates, the banter on derby day, the sickness you feel when you go into work the day after a heartbreaking loss. That’s what it’s all about.
Evra was as serious as anyone on the pitch, but off it, he reminds us that all footballers are human and not robots. He’s an absolute cult hero amongst the Old Trafford terraces and he always will be. I adore how he defends our badge with pride just as aggressively now as he did during his playing days – and that will forever resonate with each and every one of us.
Never change, Pat! Thanks for the laughs.
