Patrice Evra gets one-year Manchester United contract extension

Manchester United have handed veteran full-back Patrice Evra a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until next summer. It was thought that the 33-year old left-back would leave Old Trafford in this transfer window, but today the club confirmed he’ll stay for another 12 months.

Evra will enter his ninth year at the club, but I’d suspect that his number of appearances will be limited if Luke Shaw does complete his transfer to the club before the new season.

It’ll be great for Shaw (if he does come in) to learn under the guidance of Evra for a season, before Shaw takes the first choice left-back spot on a permanent basis next year.

I’m glad Patrice has been offered the chance to stay on, because he’s just one of those players that get United. If we’d have lost him, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic all in the same window it would’ve been a big part of the dressing room split up, so its great to see the club have given him another year.

  1. Absolutely! He deserves it and is good enough. Thought people were harsh on the guy, he’s been dedicated and cares. In my humble oppinion.
