Man United could make their move to sign Pau Torres from Villarreal this summer.
For us here at Old Trafford Faithful, Manchester United’s biggest need going into the summer is a commanding centre-half. Simply put, I’m sick of this club conceding cheap, needless goals, week-in-week-out.
Erik ten Hag will have been reviewing the footage from the course of the campaign and no doubt he’ll see the problems that we fans have witnessed happening every single game.
Enter, a new central defender. Several names have been linked. No doubt more will follow. Though one man who keeps popping up in the headlines in regards to a potential Reds switch is Pau Torres.
The Villarreal man is expected to be hot property this summer, with United seemingly keen on bringing him in.
According to Cadena Ser, Torres ‘could leave’ Sevilla this summer, ‘more specifically’ towards United.
Apparently, United, City, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have all asked about Torres’ situation over the last few weeks, with there being a real possibility that the Spaniard heads to England over the next few months.
After reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League and ensuring Villareal’s continental qualification for next season, the player is now more willing to leave for pastures new.
Since then, United and Spurs are said to have shown the most interest, with the player preferring to ‘bet’ on the Reds over the London club.
What we found most interesting about the story is the tweet from @carrusel directly linking to the article. They state that the 25-year-old ‘could play’ for United next season, and that he’d cost £43m if the move does happen.
There’s no doubt Torres would walk straight into our starting line-up from day one if he made the move to Manchester. Let’s be honest, the lack of consistency from our current crop of centre-halves just hasn’t been good enough. Torres’ arrival would definitely shake things up.
I still worry about interest from other clubs, particularly as we have no Champions League football on offer. However, United are still by far and away the biggest club in the country. That must still be attractive to some players.
Personally, I’d love to see this move made. Though you’d imagine at least one or two centre-halves will have to move on. I’m looking at Phil Jones, who is out of contract this summer.
