Paul Parker says Scott McTominay is part of the problem for Man United

Manchester United Football Club has struggled for any sort of consistency this term, which seems to be a common theme of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

For me, there are a handful of players who can hold their head high this term. Amongst those is Scott McTominay. The young midfielder has come on leaps and bounds under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tutelage, proving that he’s more than capable of putting in high-level performances, week-in-week-out.

However, that isn’t a view echoed by former Red Paul Parker – as he slates the current fan favourite McTominay, labelling him a ‘part of the problem’ before adding ‘he just runs around trying to kick people’. Erm, no.

“Scott McTominay is a good example of the problem. He just runs around trying to kick people, thumping the badge.” Parker wrote in his Eurosport column.

“He’s like a modern-day Robbie Savage. You need more than that. If people are saying United are missing McTominay, they’re not really Man United fans. The reason he’s out injured is because he tried to kick someone and hurt himself. If that’s what people think United are, then they weren’t around for the good times.”

I just don’t get why Parker is so quick to hate on McTominay. He has been absolutely brilliant in the first half of this season and I honestly don’t think it’s a coincidence that we’re suddenly starting to lose games without him in the engine room.

Alright, I think we all know that times aren’t as good as they once were at Old Trafford, though Parker is kidding himself if he thinks McTominay wouldn’t be a vital part of a title-winning squad. He’s like a modern-day Darren Fletcher, plus it’s always that little bit sweeter when you’ve graduated from the academy.

I’d even go as far as saying that McTominay could be captain material in the future – though I know it’s a bold shout given he’s still only 22.

Seriously, Parker needs to get a grip because all I can think of here is that he’s trying to stay relevant by taking a foul swoop at an ever-improving player.
