Paul Pogba looks pretty chuffed to be welcoming France compatriot Raphael Varane to Man United.
Well, Manchester United’s excellent transfer window continued with a move for Raphael Varane. The deal is done pending the completion of medical.
A top-class centre-half was priority number one going into this window and Ole Gunnar Solskajer seems to have landed his man. In terms of fit, I can’t think of many better partners for Harry Maguire than the Frenchman – and I’m so excited to see how this partnership plays out during the 2021/22 season.
There are no prizes for guessing who was amongst the first to welcome Varane to Manchester; his friend, Paul Pogba.
Pogba and Varane would be all smiles via FaceTime as the Frenchman’s move to Old Trafford was confirmed last night. It must be nice for our midfielder to welcome such a close friend to the Theatre of Dreams!

Honestly, you can see how much it means to Varane, who is beaming with pride while sharing a precious moment with his friend.
Does this mean Pogba is now more likely to remain at Manchester United? I’d like to think so but in this game, you just never know. Either way, the Reds are taking a gamble if they don’t cash in on the number six this summer, as he could potentially walk away for free in twelve months’ time.
As for Varane, it’s now about getting him in to Manchester as soon as possible. He can then self-isolate for five days, before having his medical, finalising his transfer and getting stuck into training with his new teammates.
Hopefully, we’re not kept waiting too long before this deal is done. Preferably so Varane can start against Leeds United in a couple of weeks…
