Paul Pogba has been named Manchester United Player of the Month for January.
Despite ending the first month of 2021 on a sour note, Manchester United have to be pleased with where they’re at right now. Nobody thought Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side would fight for a title in 2021 – but his Red Devils are up there.
United would pick up three league wins in January, while also getting by both Watford and Liverpool in the FA Cup. Sure, the loss to Sheffield United was a shock but games like that are bound to happen in the toughest division in the world.
In a month where our defence came up big on multiple occasions, I immediately thought we’d see Luke Shaw or Harry Maguire win the Player of the Month award. However, the honour was given to our mercurial Frenchman, Paul Pogba…
The loveable midfielder was all-smiles upon collection of this personal award, flanked by two teammates who helped him win it; Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof.

So why Paul Pogba, then…?
Where else to start but his two winning goals? Manchester United found themselves struggling against a resilient Burnley side – but up popped Pogba to deliver the goods with a sweet strike in the second 45. United would win that game 1-0.
In the very next league game, the Reds found themselves in another deadlock, this time it was 1-1 against Fulham. Pogba would brilliantly curl one past the hapless Alphonse Areola in goal with an unstoppable effort.
Come May, we could well be looking back upon these moments as the turning point in our season. But in January, it wasn’t just about Pogba’s goals. He looked like he was enjoying himself once again, putting in those colossal performances we know he’s more than capable of.
Long may this continue! Well done Paul!
