Paul Pogba has made his decision; he will not stay at Man United beyond this summer.
Six summers ago, Manchester United broke their then-world record to bring Paul Pogba back ‘home’.
The Old Trafford faithful were rightly giddy with excitement. Pogba, at the time, was seen as one of the best midfielders on the planet.
Sadly, the relationship has brought nothing but disappointment all-round. Pogba was once adored by the Reds crowd. That has slowly turned into vitriol and genuine sadness.
The Frenchman hasn’t been good enough. Several change in managers, systems and positions hasn’t helped his case. Though when you spend so much money on one footballer, you expect more.
Now, Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the United star ‘has decided’ he will not stay with the Reds beyond his current deal that expires this summer. As things stand, Pogba is yet to decide on his next club.
Honestly, I don’t blame him for wanting to leave, because he’s struggled here, while some fans have been less-than-kind to the Frenchman at times. Why should we expect him to stay?
In terms of where he’d end up, it still looks like both Juventus and Paris Saint-German are the most likely destinations.
Outside of those two, there aren’t many club sides that can afford to acquire Pogba. He’ll command huge weekly wages, a massive sign-on fee and probably an even bigger package to his agent.
Sometimes, situations just don’t work out in football. I genuinely believe it’s good for all involved for Pogba and United to head in their different directions. No doubt the World Cup winner will go on to enjoy success wherever he ends up. Perhaps United will be far better off without Pogba’s ego hanging over them, too…
